In 1976, I left London with a girlfriend to travel what was known as the "Hippie trail". We were lucky enough to spend 3 weeks in Afghanistan. It was a great adventure and a memory that both of us treasure because from 1979 when the Russians invaded, the country became too dangerous for the ordinary traveller to enjoy.
